RedSky readies softphone location application for real-time E911

RedSky customers will soon be able to provide their IP softphone users with E911 protection from virtually anywhere in the country.

RedSky‘s Softphone Location Determination Application (SLDA) seamlessly interfaces with any IP softphone to provide E911 protection for users working in the corporate facility, at home or on the road.

SLDA makes it easy for users to quickly and accurately identify their location by prompting them to establish a location for 911 calling when they log in to use their IP softphone. The location information is validated by the E911 Manager application and updated with 911 VoIP Positioning Centers (VPC) to ensure proper 911 call routing.  By using an application like SLDA that is integrated with the softphone, the corporate communications infrastructure and the 911 network, IP softphone users can now have local 911 service even when they’re not in the office.

For example, a softphone user traveling from New York to San Francisco would use RedSky’s SLDA to update their location as soon as they arrived at their hotel and logged in to use the softphone.  If a 911 call was made that night, the location data entered through SLDA would ensure that the call is routed to the San Francisco 911 call center along with the precise location information that would be displayed for the dispatcher.

RedSky is deploying E911 Manager with SLDA later this year at a large financial services company deploying IP softphones throughout the organization for users who frequently change locations.  SLDA allows enterprises to provide complete 911 protection for their employees whether they are inside or outside the corporate network. Validating new locations takes seconds, providing employees with immediate 911 protection no matter where they use their phone.

“Softphones are becoming more and more popular and are being deployed in large numbers in the enterprise,” said Nick Maier, RedSky’s senior vice president.  “We are excited to offer such an innovative solution that enables organizations to easily extend comprehensive 911 protection to their employees who use this new technology.”

SLDA is a component of the RedSky E911 Manager solution and is easily installed on any Windows™ based softphone. E911 Manager provides complete, automated E911 location information management for digital, IP and analog phones across the enterprise communications system.
