Case Study: Allina Health System’s Prescription for State-of-the-Art 911 Protection

Providing timely emergency response to 1,600 employees in their new 9-story Minneapolis headquarters high-rise is a high priority for Allina Hospitals and Clinics. "Before we implemented our new system, we didn’t know where 911 calls originated from," says Kevin Holst, telecommunications systems manager for Allina Hospitals and Clinics. "We've now brought it down to a granular level so that, in the event of an emergency, even someone unfamiliar with our site can find someone in need quickly."

Upon reviewing the state E911 requirements and understanding the complexity of the facility with multiple floors and a variety of users (IP and traditional), Allina corporate attorneys determined that implementing E911 would be the best course of action.

Allina is a major healthcare provider in the state of Minnesota and western Wisconsin with employees at the headquarters complex working around-the-clock to serve a large network of hospitals, clinics, ambulatory care, community pharmacies and more. 24-hour security is provided at the facility and now with the E911 Manager in place, these on-site security guards can respond in seconds rather than minutes. They can now provide assistance in anticipation of public response as well as usher emergency responders to the proper location within the 9-story building.
