How Can E911 Help Your Business?

E911, or Enhanced 9-1-1, was developed in order to more accurately locate a person who has dialed 9-1-1.  Relying on a person in an emergency to articulate their exact location can oftentimes lead to delays in response times or incorrect dispatching.  Furthermore, the address associated with many company phones defaults to the billing telephone number location, rather than the address where the phone is physically located.  If this is the case, emergency calls are routed to a dispatcher nearest to the billing telephone address, which can sometimes be as far as across state lines. E911 offers a solution to this problem by finding and sending the caller’s location data to the correct Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), enabling responders to find the site of emergency more quickly and accurately than traditional 9-1-1 services allow. 

 

Many businesses might not be aware of the necessity of E911, and are perhaps under the misleading impression that 9-1-1 should simply work when dialed.  Others may know about E911, but believe it will be too demanding of a project to begin.
